The film, presented in Venice in 1998 and written by Jane Campion in collaboration with her sister Anna, tells a story of great passions. Ruth (Kate Winslet) is a beautiful Australian girl who goes to India in search of a new spirituality. When the family learns that Ruth is brainwashed by a Guru of the post, worried, decides to entrust to PJ (Harvey Keitel), spiritual advisor, the task of bringing the girl home. Arriving in India, by Ruth and PJ will be delighted by her sensuality, and if one side manages to free the young from plagiarism spiritual guru, the other will not be able to free himself from the great seductive power that Ruth has on him. Intense film, well shot, well acted.
